Topic: “BICC at TD Ameritrade - A Case Study”
Abstract: This presentation will outline the approach taken by TD Ameritrade to develop an enterprise community around Business Intelligence. TD Ameritrade instituted a DW/BI Council to primarily streamline the project intake and prioritization of the business needs. This council has evolved and resulted in the formation of a more focused Virtual Business Intelligence Competency Center that is designed to help bring a cross functional team from various key business areas to define, steer and steward the Business Intelligence investment and enable an enterprise wide Business Intelligence culture with more fact based decision making.
Speaker’s Bio: Ann Summers is the Director of Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence and Database Development at TD Ameritrade. Ann is responsible for the day to day functioning and effectiveness of coordinating the Business Intelligence Competency Center and translating that to project execution by the Technology team. Ann has over twenty years’ experience in Technology with specific focus to Information Architecture, Data Warehouse Design and BI delivery. Prior to TD Ameritrade, Ann held several positions at Healthcare, Consulting, Telecommunications and Media companies helping with their Data Management strategy.

Topic: “Three Data Warehousing Solutions from the Field”
Abstract: Practitioners and analysts in the data warehousing frequently debate the best approach to creating a data warehouse and related business intelligence environment. This presentation will focus on three controversial areas and how organizations tackled the challenges to enable rich BI environments.
The areas on which the discussion will focus include
1) ETL tool or custom SQL code
2) Star schema vs. Snowflake schema
3) Flexible yet stable architectures with intra-day updates
The resultant BI environments supported include:
- Human Resources Reporting and Analytics
- Financial Reporting and Analytics
- Sales and Marketing Reporting and Analytics
Speaker’s Bio: Tim Dickens is the Director of the Data Warehousing practice at ISA Consulting. In this capacity he keeps current with the latest technologies and trends, fills high-level advisory roles for clients, and manages projects and client accounts. Over the last 10 years, Tim has designed, developed and implemented over 25 data warehouses and data marts for a variety of industries and application areas at large, medium, and small companies. His hands-on experience includes a wide variety of ETL, RDBMS, reporting and analytic tools.
